If you’re looking for a knife with a smart tip for precise work, the ProSkinner may be the design for you. Today we’re looking at two similar, yet different, custom ProSkinners and comparing the options!
As you notice right off, both have blue box elder handles with very similar grain and coloration. The first knife is a standard ProSkinner, with 3 1/2-inch blade. The second knife has an extended blade, around 4 1/2-inches, for added working room. The top knife has a hammer forged finish; below we see a satin blade finish.
The top knife features the standard hardware…two brass pins and a lanyard hole. The knife below doesn’t have a lanyard hole, but features a trio of mosaic pins!
Both knives have patterned filework on the spine. First, we have the Classic pattern and below we have the Vine pattern, which do have slightly different looks even from the side view.

Today we’re zoning in on the Large Frontier – a classic design that has stood the test of time on the Lucas Forge team for many years.
If you’re looking for a fixed blade knife with a smaller size, the Large Frontier is an easy everyday carry. It’s 7 1/2 inches overall, including its 3 3/8-inch blade. Whether you’re at work, around home or around the hunting camp, this knife will be handy for most tasks you encounter.
The aged blade finish comes standard, as shown here, or you can also order your custom Large Frontier with satin or hammer-forged pattern finishes for a different style.
The Large Frontier comes standard with two brass pins and a lanyard hole. It also looks great with the upgrade to 3/16″ mosaic pins, or you could go with three brass pins and no lanyard hole is that better suits your need.
As with all Lucas Forge models, you have your choice of many handle materials to truly customize your knife. This handsome example has a classic walnut handle that is just hard to beat.
Each Large Frontier also comes with a handcrafted leather belt sheath!
Another super option for customization is adding thumb jimping or patterned filework…Classic filework seen here). This adds character and flair to the spine, while giving your thumb more grip and control during use.
See the Frontier model page for lots of examples and inspiration! While you’re there, you’ll also see that the Large Frontier is one of several Frontier designs, small to moderately-sized knives that are fine-tuned and ready for the outdoors. The lineup also includes the Small Frontier, Frontier Trapper, and Frontier Skinner, each with a variation in size or blade style.
