A Look at the Vintage Kephart
The Kephart has long-standing recognition as a treasure of outdoor knife history… And it’s still as useful and indispensable to today’s outdoorsmen as it was when Mr. Horace Kephart first wrote it into legend-hood.
The Vintage Kephart from Lucas Forge is a close reproduction to the original design. It’s approximately 9 inches long, blade about 4 1/2 inches, O-1 high carbon blade. It can also be ordered with a longer 5-inch blade.
The familiar straight-topline, blade shape, convex grind, and comfortable handle style combine to make a working knife that’s a pleasure to use. The aged blade finish comes standard, as shown here, or you can switch your custom Vintage Kephart up with satin or hammer-forged pattern finishes, depending on the look you’re going for!
Three brass pins make up the clean, minimal hardware. The lanyard hole is left of in keeping with tradition. If you’re placing a custom order, though…feel free to leave a note that you’d like to add one.
As with all Lucas Forge models, you have your choice of many handle materials to truly customize your knife. Our example above has a walnut handle and looks truly at home in the woods. Traditional hardwoods really set off this design.
Each Vintage Kephart also comes with a handcrafted leather belt sheath.
See the Vintage Kephart model page for lots of examples, inspiration, and even more options for customization than we’ve covered here. If you have any questions, please direct them to lucas@customhuntingknives.org. Thank you for visiting and for your interest in traditional outdoor history!
