The Lucas Forge Kephart
Once a Kephart gets into your hand, I believe you’ll see why this style has stood the test of time. For an outdoor knife with a traditional twist, consider the Lucas Forge Kephart. The Lucas Forge version adds a subtle play on the original design, giving a little bit more heft to the profile. Today we’re taking a look at the details of this popular model.
The Lucas Forge Kephart measures in at about 9 1/2 inches overall, with a blade about 4 1/2 inches long. It can also be ordered with a 5-inch blade, which gives an overall length of 10 inches.
The blade is constructed out of O-1 high carbon steel that holds a keen edge and if you go for the standard, you’ll get a fine aged finish on it. Or, order something even more customized and choose from a polished satin finish or a textured hammer-forged finish!
The Lucas Forge Kephart looks handsome is a multitude of different handle materials and there are many example pictures on the site for inspiration. Curly maple, such as the example in our post today, is a popular and winning choice! This is paired with three brass pins and a lanyard hole…or you can go deluxe with a mosaic pin upgrade.
A handcrafted leather sheath comes along with each knife, and this model’s also compatible with the Trekker sheath.
This knife has a well-balanced, straightforward style with plenty of size and cutting edge for a wide variety of projects! Check out more Kephart pictures here!
Spotlight: Beefy Ironwood ProSkinner
Today we’re featuring a special beefed-up version of the ProSkinner. It has a stainless blade, three stainless bolt sets, and subtle red handle liners in a beautiful ironwood handle that takes in the guard.
This special-edition ProSkinner looks like it might be an ideal kitchen knife, in addition to serving as a skinner. Have an idea for your own dream knife? Contact lucas@customhuntingknives.org to discuss it. Thanks for visiting the blog!

A Look at the Classic Hunter
We’re kicking things off with a look at the Classic Hunter knife model specs!
The Classic Hunter is 9 1/2 inches overall, with a 4 1/2 inch, O-1 high carbon steel blade. A beautifully polished satin blade finish is the standard with this model, or it can be custom ordered with a blued/aged finish, such as the custom example shown in this post!
The Classic Hunter has a fine brass guard and standard brass bolt hardware, or you can order the upgrade for 3/16″ mosaic pins for a fancier look. The brass on this knife will mellow and age beautifully with proper care.
As with all Lucas Forge models, this knife can be customized with a wide variety of handle choices. Stabilized walnut (as seen in our example here!) is a popular material.
The Classic Hunter comes with a custom-fitted leather sheath, or you can swap out a snap sheath or Trekker sheath to accompany your knife.
Whatever options you choose, you’ll find the Classic Hunter to be a solid choice as an outdoor blade – delivering reliable service with heirloom-quality style.
