Old Guide Series: Curly Maple Set

Today we’re starting a short series of posts featuring the Old Guide model! This knife was created in collaboration with legendary outdoor writer, guide and friend Mr. J. Wayne Fears and was named by him personally, making it a special addition to the Lucas Forge designs.

Old Guide, Old Guide Knife, Lucas Forge, Custom Hunting Knives, Lucas Knives, To start us off, here’s a set of four custom Old Guide knives featuring the enduring favorite – curly maple! These knives all have aged blade finishes, and standard brass hardware.

The Old Guide is approximately 9 9/16 inches overall. The blade is about 4 3/8 inches long, leaving a plentiful handle, ideal for those of us with large hands or who favor a lot of working room on their handle.

Old Guide, Old Guide Knife, Lucas Forge, Custom Hunting Knives, Lucas KnivesThe clipped blade, harking back to classic hunting knife blade styles, is constructed of O-1 high carbon tool steel, 1/8-inch thick, with a flat grind. The model comes standard with an aged blade finish and three brass pins, plus a lanyard hole.

As with all Lucas Forge designs, there’s a lot of room for creativity when choosing handle options and we’re going to be featuring a handful of those options in this little series.

Cross-hatching is a custom option that adds extra grip and an extra element of character to a knife handle. Each groove is made by hand, giving every cross-hatched handle a unique style.

Today’s spotlight shines on a custom XL version of the Woodsman Nessmuk, designed with a 6-inch blade and beefed up handle to match. The features include a fancy buckskin curly maple handle with beautiful striping, a hammer forged blade finish, Vine filework along the spine, and a cross-draw sheath, with an included firesteel loop and matching firesteel.

Today we’re featuring a collection of three custom Lone Star Desk knives! This design has a slender handle and a fine blade with a curved top-line and straight cutting edge that comes to a smart tip…ideal for opening letters or packages. Overall length is about 6 3/4 inches, with a blade of 2 3/4 inches.
