Placing an order for a custom hunting knife from Lucas Forge is simple. The Lucas Forge knife models are proven and really all you have to do is select your knife design and handle of choice! The handle materials are listed below so you can easily choose from the options that are available.
Yet, if you would like to order a truly customized knife, there are so many additional custom options available aside from the model standards. We’d like for the experience of designing your own custom knife to be simple, too, so we’ve also compiled a list of the add-ons that are available. Custom Handle Choices:
Whether you’re going for modern or traditional style for your custom knife, whether you like synthetic or wood, there is a wide variety of handle materials to choose from! Check out the photo below for a small sampling of the options!
Below you’ll find a list of some of the handle materials that are available when choosing your custom Lucas Forge knife. If no added price is listed, these materials go with your knife’s standard base price. You can see many more examples of these handle materials in action by looking at the knives on this site. Some of the materials are linked directly to a representation piece so you can see what it looks like on a knife. Check out the Past Work page to see a whole passel of them!
Special Note: Please remember that there is a huge variation in these materials, especially the “curly” natural pieces. No guarantees can be made of matching a particular handle, so your custom knife will have look that’s unique to it!

The customize-able features of a knife are many and varied. Some are listed below, along with the approximate price for adding this option to your custom knife. Super-Custom Design
- Design cost (designing your dream knife from a picture or concept, something other than is listed on the Lucas Forge website) – Starts at $50.00
Spine Filework and Personalizing Options
- Standard thumb jimping on spine (below, top left and bottom center) –
add $20 per inch - X-jimping on spine (below, top center) – add $30 per inch
- Filework on spine is available in two different patterns – Classic pattern (below, top right) or Vine pattern (below, bottom left) – add $30
- Your initials or name can be stamped into the knife spine (several examples shown below) – $10 per letter. This stamping is done by hand and will give a unique flair to your knife.
Custom Hardware and Handle Options
Many Lucas Forge models are made with pin-style rivets and a lanyard hole in the handle. This hardware option is available in the following materials:
- Brass (standard)
- Mild Steel (pins only, no lanyard hole) – no charge for upgrade
- Nickel Silver – add $10 for upgrade
- Copper – add $10 for upgrade
- Stainless Steel – add $10 for upgrade
- 3/16″ Brass Pins – add $10 for upgrade
Some Lucas Forge models, such as the Packer and Classic Hunter, come with fish-eye bolts and a lanyard hole as the standard hardware. For all other models, this is available in place of pins as a custom add-on. This hardware option is available in the following materials:
- Brass Bolts – upgrade from brass pins – adds $10
- Stainless Steel Bolts – upgrade from brass bolts – adds $10 – upgrade from brass pins – adds $20
Other hardware options:
- Upgrade to 3/16″ copper and nickel silver mosaic pins in handle (below, center) – $12 per pin.
- Lanyard hole liner can be ordered in brass, nickel silver, stainless steel or copper. Some period-style knives look best without a lanyard hole, in which case you may prefer it left out of the handle.
- Add a brass guard, like the Classic Hunter’s guard, to another design (please contact for details) – adds $100.
Other handle options:
- Colored liners can be added between the steel tang and handle scales. Popular colors are red and black. Other colors include orange, blue, green and yellow and gray – adds $25
- Cross-hatch pattern on handle (below, right) – adds $40
Custom Steel Options
Most of the Lucas Forge knife models come standard with a 1/8″ blade thickness. They can be customized as follows:
- The use of 5/32″ steel stock adds $40 to the price of a standard 1/8″ knife
- The use of 3/16″ steel stock adds $50 to the price of a standard 1/8″ knife
- The use of 1/4″ steel stock adds $65 to the price of a standard 1/8″ knife
- For blade lengths longer than 5″ steel thickness upgrades will need to be quoted at the time of your order.
- The ProSkinner is the only model currently offered with 3/32″ as the standard blade thickness. It can be made with the 1/8″ blade thickness at no extra charge.
The standard blade length is noted for each of the models…
- Blades can be made shorter than the standard length for any model at no charge.
- Blades can be made longer to a degree, contact for details. The cost for longer blades starts at $30.
