The Kephart knife design is one that is steeped in history! This special, handcrafted cutting tool from Lucas Forge is a reproduction of the Colclesser brothers’ Kephart knife pattern of long ago.
- The overall length of this model is traditional: approximately 9 inches long, blade about 4 1/2 inches. The Vintage Kephart can also be ordered with a 5-inch blade.
- The knife’s signature profile is a straight top-line and a blade of O-1 high carbon tool steel, 1/8-inch thick…
- The blade comes standard with a convex grind for a traditional look, or you can have your knife customized with a flat grind. The example shown above has a flat grind.
- The Vintage Kephart comes standard with an aged blade finish…or you may wish to upgrade to a hammer-forged finish, or satin finish.
- Three brass pins are also standard. Mosaic pins are available as an upgrade. This model does not have a lanyard hole for a more traditional look, but you can add a lanyard hole as a custom option.
-
Comes in your choice of handle! The Vintage Kephart pictured above has a classic walnut handle. Traditional woods like walnut and curly maple make great choices.
- Each knife also comes complete with its own handcrafted vertical-carry leather belt sheath. Or, upgrade to the Trekker sheath!
The Vintage Kephart model’s base price is $245.

How do the two models compare? Great question!
The Lucas Forge Kephart is a little wider and longer. It has a 1 1/4″ blade width as opposed to the Vintage Kephart’s 1″ blade width. The overall length of the Lucas Forge Kephart is 9 1/2 inches. The overall length of the Vintage Kephart is 9 inches.
Both designs have a 4 1/2 inch blade. This means that the total handle length (not just the grip) on the Lucas Forge Kephart is 5″ long; on the Vintage Kephart the total handle length is 4 1/2 inches.
The Lucas Forge Kephart comes standard with 3 brass pins and a lanyard hole. The Vintage Kephart comes standard with 3 brass pins, no lanyard hole for a more traditional look.
The Lucas Forge comes standard with a flat grind. The Vintage comes standard with a convex grind.
So, in summary, the Lucas Forge version has a bit of a beefier look and feel, whereas the Vintage is a bit more slim, yet traditional. Both are excellent choices for a hunting/bushcrafting knife. Thanks for your interest!
