With the arrival of August, we’re starting a mini-series here on the blog, featuring aged oak as a handle material. Aged oak is often the first choice on the order form if you go to order a Lucas Forge knife, and it’s a great choice. A native wood, with a great deal of grain character, it has a nice, natural grip. As a handle it is simply finished and easy to maintain with a little oil or Windy Ridge Wax.

Here is the Vintage Kephart Jr. with an aged oak handle, hammer forged blade finish, and thumb jimping on the spine!

The pouch-style belt sheath is a classic design that has stood the test of time and been proven in many real-world situations. It comes standard with all the Lucas Forge knife models.

But if you are looking for a unique way to upgrade your sheath option, we also offer the Trekker sheath.

Trekker, Trekker Sheath, Custom Knife Sheath, Lucas Forge, Custom Hunting KnivesDesigned and built by Ike, the Trekker is not just a sheath, but a piece of gear, compactly carrying your knife, firesteel, and sharpening stone wherever you go. It’s made using the same high-quality, USA tanned leather as we use for the pouch sheaths, and features brass hardware, including a handy D-ring. The Arkansas sharpening stone and firesteel (with a wood or antler handle) are included in the price of the upgrade!

Trekker, Trekker Sheath, Custom Knife Sheath, Lucas Forge, Custom Hunting Knives Ike custom makes each sheath to fit the knife it’s being crafted for and the Trekker is not available for all the models. Models that are compatible with the Trekker are the Woodsman Nessmuk, Classic Hunter, Elk River Hunter, Powder River, Lucas Forge Kephart, Vintage Kephart and Mini Jaguar.
