Powder River Comparison!
If you like hunting knives with a traditional trade knife flair, the Powder River may be the design for you. It has a very traditional profile that’s exceedingly versatile for today’s outdoorsmen.
Today’s post takes a look at two custom Power River knives that are very similar, showing the variation in handle material and blade finishes.
Both of these knives are the 5″ blade version of the Powder River model. Both have three three brass pins and no lanyard hole, a very traditional look! The first knife has the standard aged blade finish; the second knife has the hammer forged finish option. The first knife has thumb jimping added on the spine; the second knife doesn’t have any spine options.
As with an natural handle material, ironwood offers a wide variation in grain patterns and color…your custom knife will be unique and one-of-its-kind!
We hope you’ve enjoyed this comparison post. If you have any questions, or would like to see any additional comparisons between custom options or knife models, please leave us a comment. Thank you for all your support and interest!

Sears Nessmuk Reproduction
In 1884, Mr. George Washington Sears (1821-1890) published his book, “Woodcraft and Camping.”
The book focused on ultra-light camping and in it, there’s a woodcut showing a double bit hatchet, a pocket knife, and sheath knife. This special edition Lucas Forge knife is made to be a close reproduction of that sheath knife.
Lucas’ version features an aged 1/8-inch, O-1 high carbon steel blade, a rustic antler handle, and three brass pins. In addition, this knife doesn’t have the usual Lucas Forge etch, but a special one: Sears Nessmuk By Lucas Forge.
Today we’re highlighting one of these special custom reproduction pieces. For more information on the Sears Nessmuk Reproduction, please write lucas@customhuntingknives.org. Thank you for your interest in traditional outdoor knives!
